In this class, we will introduce an innovative perspective on burnout as one phase in the regular cycle of service. Burnout can be an individual or a team experience which can potentially release us from patterns that led to burnout in the first place and enable us to see our work and our resources afresh. We will discuss ways that this perspective can demystify and de-fang burnout, empowering us to pursue renewal and resilience in subsequent phases of service. Throughout the class, we will work through exercises for building resilience and for taking advantages of each phase of the cycle of service, even burnout.
Learning Objectives As a result of attending this session, you should be able to:
- Define burnout within the cycle of service
- Reframe burnout as an opportunity for growth
- Analyze personal and organizational patterns leading to burnout
- Apply resilience-building strategies
