Description

Every day we try to convince people of something – patients, peers, projects, even our kids. The Science of Convincing is a two-part experiential workshop where you will learn how our biology and systems impact communication along with the insights, tools, and techniques you can use to reduce stress and strife while reaching an agreement. Rob Hammond, director of the Center for Marketing and Sales Innovation in the USF Muma College of Business, will be your guide on this foundational life skills journey.

Learning Objectives: As a result of completing this course, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the impact of channel noise on communication
  • Describe the process of how we exchange information and the role personal filters and bias play in successful communication
  • Plan interactions to facilitate communication
  • Leverage a checklist to identify potential communication problems
  • Describe the three types of interaction motion
  • Explain innovation diffusion models to assess readiness to adopt
  • Apply communication and filter/bias models to assess information retention
  • Assess a communication to determine if the other party is receptive to changing perspective
