Description
Whether the conversation is about Advanced Directives, illness management, death and dying, family strain, or procedure related fear and concern, a healthcare practitioner should be ready to navigate those discussions in a way that is calming and helpful to the patient and their family.
Learning Objectives As a result of attending this session, you should be able to:
- Define difficult conversations in healthcare settings
- Explain the types of topics and responses that can make a discussion with a patient or family difficult
- Describe effective communication, including framing and sense-making
- Employ strategies to improve communication skills with patients and families
