Preparing for an interview can be stressful and cause anxiety which can negatively impact the impression you make on the HR professional or hiring manager. Just like with any skill, learning how to mentally and physically prepare for an interview takes practice. This one-hour course is designed to provide you with best practices for interviewing excellence. You’ll learn how to do research on the organization to determine how your values and interests align with the organization and department. You’ll also discover the value of creating an “elevator pitch” to briefly introduce yourself and engage the interviewer from the beginning. Finally, you’ll review the difference between traditional and behavioral questions and the best techniques for answering each.

Learning Objectives As a result of attending this session, you will:

  • Describe how to use a job description to prepare for an interview
  • Review the STAR method for answering questions
  • Prepare answers to commonly asked questions
  • Demonstrate how to answer questions with confidence
